Family Participation & Commitment

Ways to Help

We are a parent-run team and depend on our swim families to do their part. Please do not plan to drop your young child off at practice or meet and then leave, unless you have arranged with another adult to provide supervision. Coaches cannot be responsible for supervising your child; they will be busy coaching.

We understand that families have any number of activities, vacations, camps, etc., planned for the summer. Please just let us know when you and your child(ren) will not be swimming -- you can do that on the registration form, via email, or (less securely) by telling us in person. Remember that a child must compete in at least three regular-season meets in order to be eligible (along with achieving the relevant qualifying time standard) to compete at the VSA championship meet ("States").

Parents are what make the swim team run... we depend on all our swim parents to pitch in and help run the show. Parents can choose to help in any number of ways. At meets, we need people to run the concessions, time, shepherd kids to their events, run the "bullpen," officiate, work the Hy-Tek computer system, etc. Parents can shop, publicize, organize. Parents can also assist a coach at practices. Just ask! We'll be sure to find something that needs doing.

One perennial need is for swim meet officials (Stroke & Turn Judges, Referees, Starters). We can't run a meet without a certain minimum number of officials. It's a great way to be on deck and watch the swimmers close up, and to learn more about the sport. Stroke & turn clinics are run several times a year in Vermont. "No experience necessary: we will train!" Ask us for more information.
